In this tutorial, you will learn about:
The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) entered into force on December 13, 2024, and represents the European Union’s legal framework that ensures the safety of all non-food consumer products and requires manufacturers, distributors, and online retailers to provide clear safety information to all consumers in the European Union.
How to comply with GPSR requirements
To comply with GPSR obligations and continue selling non-food products on the eMAG Marketplace platform, you must ensure that the product documentation is complete and that you provide a set of information at the product level regarding:
- Information about the manufacturer and responsible person: you must provide the following details about the manufacturer or EU responsible person:
- Name,
- Address,
- Email.
- Safety information: You need to ensure that all consumers are informed about potential risks associated with the products.
- Product documentation: you must maintain complete documentation for your products, ensuring that all necessary safety information is available.
- Product traceability: you must ensure that products can be traced back to their source, thus facilitating accountability and safety checks.
- Labeling compliance: Products must comply with the specific labeling requirements set out in the Regulation.
- CE marking: Products must bear the CE marking, indicating compliance with EU safety standards.
💡What happens if you do not provide the GPSR information:
- Failure to comply with GPSR may result in blocking products on the platform or even suspending activity on eMAG Marketplace.
💡 What happens if you do not have permission to update documentation:
- You can provide this data to us in Message center, under the Product-Product information/review category and request the update of safety information for these products.
What information you need to provide for your products on eMAG Marketplace
- What it means: For each product, you must provide complete details about the manufacturer that will appear on the product page.
- What information you need to complete: The full name of the manufacturer, correspondence address, contact email address.
- For example:
- On the product page “Kitchen Mixer XYZ” it clearly shows: “Manufacturer: “Manufacturer SRL, Street X, Sofia, Bulgaria, contact@manufacturer.bg“
- Just mentioning “Made in Romania” without other contact details is not correct!
- Recommendation:
- Make sure that for each product you sell on eMAG Marketplace, you have completed the information about the manufacturer.
- The information is completed at the product/PNK level and you can add data for up to 10 manufacturers.
- What it means: You must complete the identification data for the responsible person in the EU:
- If the manufacturer is established in an EU state – they are responsible for the product.
- If the manufacturer is established in a non-EU state, the responsible person can be the importer, distributor, or person designated by the manufacturer.
- What information you need to complete: The full name of the responsible person, correspondence address, contact email address.
- Practical examples for different scenarios:
- Scenario 1: The manufacturer is from an EU state – in this case, the Manufacturer’s data can also be completed for the EU Responsible Person.
- Manufacturer: “Manufacturer name. SRL, Address X, Sofia, Bulgaria, contact@manufacturer.bg“.
- Responsible Person EU: “Manufacturer name. SRL, Address X, Sofia, Bulgaria, contact@manufacturer.bg“.
- Scenario 2: Importer acting as EU Responsible Person
- Manufacturer: “Manufacturer name Co., Boston, USA, contact@manufacturer.com“.
- Responsible Person EU: “Manufacturer name/Responsible Person, Address XY, Berlin, Germany, info@importer.de“
- Scenario 3: Manufacturer from China, with Responsible Person in Bulgaria:
- Manufacturer: “Manufacturer name Co., Shenzhen (China) contact@manufacturer.com“
- Responsible Person EU: “Responsible Person Name SRL, Str. XYZ, Sofia, Bulgaria, contact@responsibleperson.bg“.
- Scenario 1: The manufacturer is from an EU state – in this case, the Manufacturer’s data can also be completed for the EU Responsible Person.
- Recommendation:
- Make sure that for each product you sell on eMAG Marketplace, you have completed the information about the manufacturer and responsible person.
- The information is completed at the product/PNK level and you can add data for up to 10 responsible persons.
- What it means: You must clearly communicate all potential risks associated with the use of your product and provide complete safety instructions.
- What you must include: Warnings regarding product use, age limitations or user groups (if applicable), special precautions (e.g., “Keep out of reach of children”), safe use instructions, information about potential residual risks.
- Example of completion: For a folding chair: “Attention: Maximum capacity 120 kg. Not recommended for children under 12 years. Do not use on unstable surfaces. Always check stability before use.” It is incorrect to not add any mention about load capacity or usage limitations.
- Recommendation:
- Include all relevant warnings in the product description on eMAG Marketplace, on the packaging, and in the user manual.
- Translate this information into Bulgarian and other relevant languages for the EU markets where you sell.
- What it means: You must maintain complete technical documentation for each product that demonstrates compliance with safety standards. Here you can add documents such as:
- product technical sheet,
- safety testing reports,
- certificates of conformity,
- EU declarations of conformity,
- usage and assembly instructions.
- Example of completion: For a toy, you have certificates for materials safety testing, testing report for small parts, documentation regarding flammability tests, CE declaration of conformity, all of which you add to the product description.
- Recommendation: Organize all documents in a digital system and ensure you can access them quickly in case of a request. Keep the documents for at least 10 years after selling the last product.
- What it means: You must be able to identify and locate all your products in the supply chain to facilitate their rapid withdrawal in case of safety issues. Traceability elements are:
- unique product identification code,
- batch or serial number,
- manufacturing date,
- information about suppliers and distributors,
- sales registration system.
- Example: A coffee maker has a unique serial number (SN: CAF-2024-12345) and a QR code which, when scanned, shows the production batch and manufacturing date.
- Recommendation: Implement a coding system for all your products and keep detailed records of suppliers, batches, and customers. Use barcodes or QR codes to facilitate tracking.
- What it means: Your products must have clear, legible and durable labels containing all mandatory information according to regulations. Necessary information on the label includes:
- product and manufacturer identification,
- safety warnings,
- usage instructions,
- information about materials or composition,
- manufacturing date or batch number,
- specific mentions for the product category.
- Example: A cosmetic product has a label that includes: complete list of ingredients, period after opening (PAO), usage instructions, warnings, batch and contact details.
- Recommendation: Check the specific regulations for your product category for exact labeling requirements.
Use durable materials for labels and ensure that the information remains legible throughout the product’s lifetime.
- What it means: The CE marking indicates that your product complies with all essential safety and performance requirements established in the relevant EU legislation.
Requirements for applying the CE marking:
- Assessment of product conformity with applicable standards
- Preparation of technical documentation
- Conducting necessary tests (by you or a notified body)
Issuing the EU declaration of conformity - Applying the CE marking in the correct format
- Correct example: A phone charger has a clearly visible CE marking, of correct dimensions (minimum 5 mm height), and there is a declaration of conformity that certifies compliance with electrical safety standards.
- Recommendation: Not all products require CE marking. Check if your product falls under a directive or regulation that requires CE marking. Never apply the CE marking without having complete conformity documentation.

- The Safety information for your product
It is necessary to ensure that all consumers are informed about potential risks associated with your products.
- Go to the Description section of the listing form.
- Below the field dedicated to adding the product description, you must also complete the specific details for Safety information.
- These have the role of informing customers how to use the product in a safe way, for example:
- product’s user manual — add attachments in the official language of the country where you sell your product. If you sell in all the eMAG Marketplace platfroms, the user manual should come in the Romanian, Bulgarian and Hungarian versions.
- images of labels on the product’s packaging
- note with warnings about the product.
- These will be completed in text form, similar to the product description field, and will be common to all offers attached to that product (PNK).
- You will be able to complete safety information according to GPSR only if you have permission to update documentation for that product.
- If you do not have permission to update documentation, you can request us in the Message center, category Product-Product information/review to update safety information for these products.
- The completed safety information will not be displayed immediately in the product documentation but will be subject to the validation process, similar to any documentation update.

- If you want to fill in GPSR data for all your products, regardless the category, then select the button from the top of the page – GPSR information.
- If you want to add this information only for a specific category of products in your portfolio, identify the name of the category of interest, and next to it press the View available files, then select the button for generating the GPSR Information file.
The file will be downloaded pre-filled with your products that require GPSR data completion.
It will contain columns for adding safety information as well as columns for details about the manufacturer and the EU responsible person for the products.
You can fill in data for a maximum of 10 manufacturers or EU responsible persons.
By updating GPSR information using the XLS file, details already completed about products will be overwritten with the new information.
If you use the API integration solution, you can follow the steps described in the API documentation available in 👉 this tutorial.
Adding GPSR information is described in chapter called: 5.1.1. Product field in order details.
We remind you that you will need to periodically check and update your product information to ensure compliance with GPSR provisions. Failure to comply may lead to products being blocked on the platform or even the suspension of activity on eMAG Marketplace until the identified issues are brought into compliance.
We encourage you to consult the GPSR regulation in detail and ensure all your products meet the necessary safety and quality standards. For further guidance, you can access the relevant regulatory documentation: EU Commission – Product Safety Regulation Summary.
